Quick answer
What is Kling AI, and is it worth paying for?
Kling AI is an AI video generator from Kuaishou Technology, run for global users by Kling AI Pte. Ltd. in Singapore. It turns text prompts and images into video clips with synchronized audio, multi-shot scenes and native 4K output, using its own models. On October 14, 2026 the generally available video model was Kling 3.0 (with 3.0 Omni and 3.0 Turbo); Kling's homepage headlines "All-New Kling 4.0," but its release note says 4.0 "will officially launch in October," with 4.0 Flash in early access for a limited group since September 28. It's worth paying for if you make short AI clips regularly and want commercial rights cheaply: Standard costs $6.99 for the first month, then $8.80 a month, or $79.20 a year, for 660 credits a month, watermark removal and commercial use. The free Basic tier produces watermarked video for non-commercial use.
- Best for
- Creators and small marketing teams producing short AI video clips with sound on a tight budget.
- Skip it if
- You don't want your prompts and outputs used to train AI by default, or need enterprise contracts and compliance paperwork.
- Strongest capability
- Kling 3.0's native audio, multi-shot generation and native 4K, from the cheapest paid plan.
- Biggest limitation
- Monthly credits expire, fees are non-refundable, and its terms let Kling train on your inputs and outputs unless you email to revoke.
- Current cost
- Free Basic; Standard $8.80/mo after a $6.99 first month or $79.20/yr; Pro, Premier and Ultra up to $159.99/mo.
The Verdict
Kling is one of the strongest AI video generators you can buy direct, and one of the cheapest to start. Kling 3.0 generates clips of 3 to 15 seconds with synchronized audio, multi-shot storyboards and consistent characters, and Kling has offered native 4K since April 2026. Every paid plan, from the $8.80 Standard plan, includes commercial use, watermark removal and 1080p or 4K output, and Kling's API and integrations in Runway, Luma and others make its models easy to reach elsewhere. The cautions are about terms and transparency. The homepage sells Kling 4.0 while its release note says it launches later in October and the API doesn't support it yet; Kling publishes no full table of credits per clip; monthly credits expire; paid fees are non-refundable once activated; and its terms give Kling a license to use your inputs and outputs to train its models unless you email to revoke it. We score Kling AI 8.3/10.

The Background
What Is Kling AI?
Kling AI is a generative video and image service from Kuaishou Technology, the Chinese short-video company, which reported more than RMB850 million in Kling revenue in the second quarter of 2026. Global users contract with Kling AI Pte. Ltd. in Singapore. In the web and mobile apps you write a prompt or upload images, choose a model, length, resolution and aspect ratio, and generate up to four videos at a time on paid plans. Tools include text-to-video, image-to-video with start and end frames, Omni reference editing, Element Library characters for consistency, Motion Control, voice control, lip-sync and an image generator (Kling Image 3.0). Each generation spends credits. Kling's models are also offered inside third-party apps such as Runway and Luma, and through Kling's own developer API.
The Product
Kling AI Features: What You Actually Get
Kling 3.0 video with native audio
Kling 3.0, released January 31, 2026, generates clips of 3 to 15 seconds with synchronized audio, multi-shot sequences, element (character) consistency and multilingual speech, building on Kling's earlier O1 and 2.6 models. Kling 3.0 Omni adds reference-based editing and Kling 3.0 Turbo (June 2026) is a faster variant. Native 4K generation arrived in April 2026, and Kling's credit guide prices 4K on the 3.0 series at 30 credits per second.
A small brand turns a product photo into a 10-second clip with ambient sound and a voiced tagline for an Instagram ad.
Kling 4.0 (rolling out)
Kling's release note describes Kling 4.0 as generating 3 to 30 seconds at 720p, 1080p or 4K with stereo audio and lip-sync, up to 10 keyframes and 15 references, and video extension to 2 minutes marked "coming soon." It says 4.0 "will officially launch in October" and that 4.0 Flash (720p, up to 20 seconds) went to a limited group for early access on September 28; the yearly Ultra plan advertises early access to 4.0 Flash. Treat 4.0 as announced, not generally available, until Kling's pages say otherwise.
A filmmaker on the yearly Ultra plan tests 4.0 Flash for 20-second previews while producing final shots in Kling 3.0.
Characters, references and motion control
Element Library stores characters and objects for reuse across shots (30 elements on Basic, 50 on Standard, 150 on Pro and Premier, 500 on Ultra). Omni reference editing, start and end frames, Motion Control (copying movement and expressions from a reference video) and Element AI Multi-Shot (three free uses a day on paid plans) help keep a sequence consistent.
A creator keeps the same animated mascot across a six-shot explainer by saving it as an element.
Developer API and integrations
Kling's developer API sells prepaid units at $0.14 each, with a $9.80 trial pack and 180-day packages from $700. Kling 3.0 costs $0.084 a second at 720p, $0.112 at 1080p and $0.42 at 4K without audio, more with native audio. The API page says its plans don't yet support Kling 4.0. Kling also lists an MCP and command-line integration and a Canvas Agent.

The Numbers
Kling AI Pricing: Every Plan Explained
Kling sells monthly and yearly memberships with credit allowances. These are the prices on its membership page on October 14, 2026, in US dollars; monthly plans show a one-time first-month discount.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | Included Features | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $0 | $0 | Free tier with watermarked output and no commercial use; 1 video per generation; 30 elements; free credits (Kling's pages differ on amount and frequency) | Trying Kling's models |
| StandardBest value | $6.99 first month, then $8.80/mo | $79.20/yr (about $6.60/mo) | 660 credits a month, commercial use, watermark removal, 1080p and 4K, 4 videos per generation, daily subscriber credits, 50 elements | Occasional creators |
| Pro | $25.99 first month, then $32.56/mo | $293.04/yr | 3,000 credits a month, everything in Standard, priority access to new features, 150 elements | Weekly content production |
| Premier | $64.99 first month, then $80.96/mo | $728.64/yr | 8,000 credits a month, everything in Pro | Heavy users and small studios |
| Ultra | $127.99 first month, then $159.99/mo | $1,429.99/yr | 26,000 credits a month, everything in Premier, 500 elements, beta invites; yearly plan includes early access to Kling 4.0 Flash | Studios and agencies |
| Credit top-ups | $1 = 66 credits | — | Purchased credits last 2 years; non-refundable and non-transferable | Bursts of extra work |
Kling is cheap to start: Standard costs $6.99 for the first month, then $8.80, or $79.20 billed yearly, for 660 credits, commercial use and watermark-free 1080p or 4K. Per credit, bigger plans are much cheaper; the membership page shows $1.06 per 100 credits on monthly Standard and $0.49 on Ultra. What those credits buy is harder to pin down, because Kling doesn't publish a full table of credits per clip by model and resolution. Its July 2026 credit guide equates 660 credits to about 33 720p videos and prices 4K on the 3.0 series at 30 credits a second, so a single 10-second 4K clip costs about 300 credits, almost half of Standard's monthly allowance. Monthly credits last a month and don't roll over; subscribers' daily bonus credits expire at midnight; purchased credits last two years. Kling's paid-service terms (effective October 10, 2026) renew subscriptions automatically until cancelled and make fees non-refundable once the service is activated. You cancel through Stripe on the web or through Apple or Google for app purchases.
Before you buy
Commercial rights, ownership and AI training
Kling's terms say you own the content you generate, and paid members may use it for any commercial purpose except building competing products or services. Free users may not use outputs commercially, and outputs shared without a watermark must be labelled as Kling AI-generated.
The same terms grant Kling a royalty-free license to your inputs and outputs, including to create, test, improve and train its AI and machine-learning models and for promotion. Section 4.7.4 says you can revoke that license by emailing support@kling.ai. You, in turn, may not use Kling outputs to train AI models.
Disputes go to arbitration in Singapore under Singapore law, with a class-action waiver. We found no SOC 2 or ISO certification on kling.ai, so teams with formal vendor-security requirements should ask Kling directly.

Where Kling's own pages differ
Kling 4.0: the homepage headlines "All-New Kling 4.0," the release note says it "will officially launch in October," a blog banner still says "Kling 4.0 Coming Soon," and the API pricing page says its plans don't support Kling 4.0. The 4.0 spec table lists 10-bit HDR while the same note calls it coming soon.
Free credits: the membership FAQ says non-subscribers get monthly free credits valid for 31 days, Kling's "Is Kling AI free" page mentions daily credits for free users, and its credit guide says Basic has no monthly credits. The plan cards list daily free credits only for subscribers.
Prices and resolution: the membership page shows $1.06, $0.87, $0.81 and $0.49 per 100 credits by plan, while the credit guide says "as low as" $1.33, $1.09, $1.01 and $0.62. The membership page promises 1080p and 4K on paid plans; the guide says 1080p. The FAQ also uses tier names (Gold, Gold 7-Day Pass) that don't appear on the plan cards.

The Audience
Who Should Use Kling AI?
Best for: social creators and small brands
Standard's 660 credits a month cover a steady stream of short 720p or 1080p clips with sound and commercial rights for less than $9 a month. Move up a tier if you generate 4K often.
Best for: studios exploring AI shots
Premier and Ultra bring the per-credit price down sharply, and yearly Ultra includes early access to Kling 4.0 Flash for longer previews.
Skip if: data terms or compliance come first
Agencies with client confidentiality obligations should read section 4.7 of the terms first, or use Kling's models through a platform whose terms they've already approved, such as Runway or Luma.

In The Wild
How People Actually Use Kling AI
A solo social media creator
Start on Basic to test prompts, then move to Standard ($79.20 a year) for watermark-free, commercial clips. Generate drafts at 720p and save 4K for finals, since 4K uses far more credits.
A small ad agency
Pro or Premier gives enough credits for client concepts. Before uploading client assets, check whether you need to revoke Kling's training license under section 4.7.4 of its terms.
A developer adding video generation to an app
Use the Kling API's trial pack ($9.80 for 100 units) to price your use case per second, and note that API plans don't yet include Kling 4.0.
The Ecosystem
Kling AI Integrations
Kling's models are available in its own apps, through its API and inside other creative platforms.
- →Kling web app, iOS and Android apps
- →Kling developer API (per-second pricing)
- →MCP and command-line integration
- →Canvas Agent
- →Kling models inside Runway, Luma and other multi-model apps
- →Stripe, Apple and Google billing
Using Kling through Runway, Luma or another platform means that platform's prices, credits and terms apply instead of Kling's. The Kling API is sold separately from app memberships.
