How to Choose the Right Tool
Identify your output. Full songs with vocals for intros, jingles and social content? Suno. Voiceovers, dubbing and sound effects with some background music? ElevenLabs. Experimenting with songs you only share inside an app? Udio, with its current download limits in mind.
Start on a free plan, but don't publish from it. Suno Free (50 credits a day), ElevenLabs Free (10,000 credits a month) and Udio Free (10 credits a day) are enough to evaluate quality. None of them includes commercial rights, so upgrade before you publish monetized content.
Check downloads as well as credits. Suno Pro includes 20 song downloads a month and Premier 60, separate from its credit allowance, and Udio has disabled downloads entirely for now. If you need dozens of finished tracks a month, price the plan by downloads, not just credits.
Confirm commercial rights at your tier. Suno's rights start on Pro; ElevenLabs' commercial license, including music commercial use, starts on Starter at $6 a month. Keep a record of which plan you were on when you made each track in case a platform or client asks.
Compare monthly and yearly billing. Suno Pro is $10 monthly or $8 billed yearly, ElevenLabs Starter $6 or $5, and Udio Standard $10 or $8. Pay monthly while you're testing a workflow, then switch once you know your volume.
Check distribution rules before you upload. Read your distributor's and video platform's current policy on AI-generated audio, since some ask for disclosure or restrict tracks that imitate real artists. Avoid prompts that name living artists, and keep your own lyrics where you can.
Layer with traditional tools. AI generation is fast, but most finished tracks still need trimming, mixing and loudness matching in Descript, Logic, Ableton or your video editor before they sound right next to voice.
