Best AI Tools by Job
A map of the AI tools worth knowing in 2026, grouped by the job you need done, with free plans, starting prices and who should skip each one.

Which is the best AI tool right now?
It depends on the job, but ChatGPT is the best all-rounder: it scores 9.1/10 in BestStacked's review and covers writing, research, images, voice and code in one app. For a single job, a specialist usually wins, such as Cursor for coding, Perplexity for cited research or Fathom for meeting notes.
Most people searching for the best AI tools need two or three of them, not twenty: one general assistant, plus a specialist for the job they do most. This page is the map. Each section below covers one job, names two to four tools, and says who each one is best for, who should skip it and what it costs to start. The order inside each section follows BestStacked's existing roundup for that job, so the first pick always matches that roundup's #1. Scores shown are the tools' own BestStacked review scores; tools without a review are listed with facts from the vendor's own pages and no score. Affiliate status plays no part in which tools appear or in what order. Every price and free plan was checked on the vendor's site on October 13, 2026 or comes from a BestStacked review checked in the five days before. This is research, not hands-on testing.

Buying guide
How to Choose the Right Tool
Start with one general assistant. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini overlap heavily, so pick the one that fits where you work and use it for a month before adding a second.
Add a specialist only for a job you do every week. A coding editor, a meeting note-taker or a voice tool pays off when it replaces hours of routine work, not when it sits unused.
Read the free plan's limits before you build a habit around it: word caps, credit counts, watermarks and non-commercial terms are where free plans differ most.
Check what happens to your data. Consumer plans at OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity and Google AI Studio's free API tier may use content for training unless you opt out; business plans generally don't by default.
Compare monthly against annual billing. Many tools on this page cost less per month billed yearly (Claude Pro $17 vs $20, Gamma Plus $9 vs $12), but monthly billing is safer while you're still deciding.
