Mistral Vibe is Mistral AI's assistant. It was called Le Chat until May 28, 2026, when Mistral renamed it and kept every account, plan and conversation at the same address, chat.mistral.ai. It handles chat, research, documents, scheduled tasks and coding (in the browser, a terminal CLI and a VS Code extension) on Mistral's own models. On October 14, 2026 it had a free plan, Pro at $14.99 a month with $25.50 of monthly API credits, a $5.99 Education plan for verified students, and Team at $24.99 per user a month for at least two users. Mistral's help center says data is hosted in the European Union by default. The catch: on individual plans your chats are used for training unless you switch it off.

The Verdict
Mistral Vibe is the strongest option for people who want a mainstream AI assistant that keeps data in the European Union by default. Pro costs $14.99 a month, less than ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro billed monthly, and bundles all-day coding in the CLI, VS Code and the browser plus $25.50 a month in API credits. Work Mode plans multi-step tasks across connected apps, schedules recurring runs and drafts documents in Canvas, and Team adds knowledge connectors, domain verification and data export. The trade-offs: individual plans are opted in to model training until you switch it off, the product changed shape twice in four months (the Le Chat rename in May, then Chat and Work merged in September), and Mistral's pricing page, docs and help center disagree on several details. We score Mistral Vibe 8.3/10.

The Background
What Is Mistral Vibe?
Mistral Vibe is the AI assistant made by Mistral AI, a Paris-based model lab. Mistral announced on May 28, 2026 that Le Chat is now Vibe, "one agent and one licence across work and code", and the help center confirms the same URL and login carry over. Vibe has a Work side (chat, research, document drafting in Canvas, spreadsheets and slides, scheduled tasks and connectors to apps such as Google Workspace, Outlook, SharePoint, Slack and GitHub) and a Code side (a coding agent in the Vibe CLI, a VS Code extension and remote sandboxed sessions on the web). Mistral's docs say quick chat and multi-step work were merged into one experience on September 22, 2026, with a fast/think toggle. Vibe runs on Mistral's own models; Mistral also sells API access through Mistral Studio and publishes several models as open weights you can download.

Mistral Vibe Features: What You Actually Get
Work Mode: multi-step tasks across your apps
Mistral's launch post says Vibe plans a task, asks for sign-off, then works across connectors such as Google Workspace, Outlook, SharePoint, Slack and GitHub, showing each tool call. It can analyse spreadsheets and databases, draft documents in Canvas, generate spreadsheets and slides on paid plans, and run prompts on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule (up to 5 scheduled tasks on Free, unlimited on Pro and Team).
An operations lead schedules a weekly prompt that summarises the team's Slack channel and drafts the Monday update in Canvas.
Vibe Code: CLI, VS Code and remote sessions
Coding is part of the same licence. The Vibe CLI and VS Code extension work across a whole project, and Code Mode on the web runs remote agents in isolated sandboxes that can open pull requests. The pricing table puts remote coding agents and Teleport (moving a live session between terminal and cloud) on Pro and above; Free gets limited coding sessions.
A developer starts a refactor in the terminal, teleports the session to the cloud before leaving, and reviews the pull request later.
EU data hosting by default
Mistral's help center says data is hosted in the European Union by default, unless you deliberately use the US API endpoint. It adds that some features can transfer data temporarily to subprocessors outside the EU under standard contractual clauses, and that Enterprise customers can turn some of those features off.
A German agency picks Vibe Team so client briefs stay on EU infrastructure by default, then reviews the subprocessor list with its DPO.
Mistral models, open and commercial
Vibe runs on Mistral's flagship models. Mistral's model catalogue lists Mistral Medium 3.5 as its frontier-class multimodal model for agentic and coding work, plus open-weight models such as Mistral Small 4, Mistral Large 3 and 4, and the small Ministral 3 family, which you can download and run yourself.
A product team prototypes in Vibe, then runs an Apache 2.0 Mistral Small 4 model on its own servers for the production feature.

Pro at $14.99 a month undercuts ChatGPT Plus ($20) and Claude Pro billed monthly ($20), and it includes coding plus $25.50 a month of API credits for Mistral Studio, which the others don't bundle into their consumer plans. Team at $24.99 per user starts at two users, so the minimum is about $50 a month. Mistral's pricing FAQ says Team gets more of some features than Pro, for example 200 Flash answers a day against 150. The Education plan is $5.99 a month for students who verify an institutional email address. Mistral shows no annual billing. Refunds are narrow: web purchases can be refunded only within 14 days of the initial purchase, renewals are excluded, and App Store or Google Play subscriptions are refunded by the store. Paid plans can be extended with pay-as-you-go credits.
Privacy
EU hosting is the default; training opt-out is not
Mistral's help center says: "By default, your data is hosted in the European Union." Data goes to the US only if you explicitly use Mistral's US API endpoint, though some features may send data temporarily to subprocessors outside the EU, under standard contractual clauses. Mistral also says it holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001/27701 certification.
Model training is a separate question. Mistral's help center says Vibe users "are not opted out by default": on Free, Pro and Education your input and output are used to train Mistral's models until you turn off "Allow your interactions to be used to train our models" in the admin panel or, on mobile, "Enable data sharing". On Team, administrators can switch training off for the whole organisation; Enterprise customers are opted out by default. Thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback can always be used for training, whatever your plan. Temporary Chats aren't saved to history or used for training.
The Vibe and API training toggles are separate. Turning off training in Vibe doesn't turn it off for Mistral Studio, where free-mode API data may also be used for training.
Models
Mistral's open-weight models vs the Vibe assistant
Mistral sells three different things. Vibe is the hosted assistant with a monthly subscription. Mistral Studio is the pay-per-token API: the pricing FAQ gives Mistral Large at $0.50 per million input tokens and $1.50 per million output tokens, with 50% off for batch jobs. Open-weight models are files you download and run on your own hardware, with no per-token bill but your own infrastructure and evaluation work.
Mistral's model catalogue on October 14, 2026 listed Mistral Small 4, Mistral Large 3 and the Ministral 3 models (14B, 8B and 3B) under Apache 2.0, Mistral Large 4 as open, and Mistral Medium 3.5, its frontier-class multimodal model, under a modified MIT licence. Codestral, Mistral's OCR models and some Voxtral audio models are API-only ("Premier").
The licensing pages disagree. The help center says Apache 2.0 models can be used "for any purpose", while models under the modified MIT licence require a commercial licence, or use through Mistral Studio, for companies with more than $20 million in monthly revenue. The pricing page FAQ says open-weight models such as Mistral 7B are Apache 2.0 "for research/individual use" and that commercial deployments need a Mistral licence. Read the model card for the exact model before deploying it commercially.

Where Mistral's pages differ
Modes: the help center article on the rename (updated August 12, 2026) describes three modes, Work, Code and Chat. Mistral's docs say Chat and Work were merged into one experience on September 22, 2026, with Enterprise organisations getting a six-month migration window, and the May launch post said Chat mode would "soon" be retired.
Training defaults: the pricing page's comparison table shows "Opt-out" for Pro, Team and Enterprise, while the help center says Enterprise customers are opted out by default and individual users are opted in until they switch it off.
Education plan: the pricing page offers it to "verified students", while the help center says it's for eligible students and teachers with an institutional email address.
