    Best AI Assistants

General AI assistants ranked by their BestStacked review scores, with what each one is best at and what it costs.

See each review for its verification date

ChatGPT is the best AI assistant for most people in 2026: it scores 9.1/10 in BestStacked's review and covers the widest range of jobs in one app. Claude (9.0) and Gemini (8.9) are close behind and are the better choice for long-form writing and for Google Workspace users respectively. This guide is for founders, marketers and operators choosing one general assistant. The ranking follows each tool's overall BestStacked review score, which weighs five stated criteria: ease of use (20%), features (25%), pricing and free-plan value (20%), support (15%), and integrations (20%). Within those scores, the things that matter most for an assistant are how many jobs it covers in one plan, what the free plan includes, what the first paid plan costs, whether a business plan keeps your data out of model training, and whether it works inside the apps you already use. Microsoft Copilot and Mistral Vibe (formerly Le Chat) don't have a full BestStacked review yet, so they're listed after the scored tools without a score. Every price and plan was checked on each vendor's own site on October 12, 2026. This is research, not hands-on testing. BestStacked has no affiliate program with any tool on this list, so the links below are plain vendor links.

    ChatGPT

    General AI assistant · Free / $8 (Go) / $20 (Plus)

    9.1

The broadest assistant on this list: writing, analysis, image creation, voice, Codex and ChatGPT Work in one app. Go ($8/mo) and Plus ($20/mo) are billed monthly; Pro runs $100, $200 or $500 a month. Business is $20 per user a month billed annually or $25 monthly, with a 2-user minimum, and OpenAI doesn't train on business data by default. Free and Go may show ads.

    #2

    Claude

    General AI assistant · Free / $20 (Pro) / $100 (Max)

    9.0

The closest rival to ChatGPT overall and the stronger pick for long-form writing, long-context analysis and coding, per BestStacked's ChatGPT vs Claude comparison. Pro is $20 a month or $17 billed annually; Max starts at $100. Team plans cover 2 to 150 seats from $20 per seat a month billed annually.

    Perplexity

AI answer engine · Free / Pro $17/mo billed annually

    8.6

An answer engine that searches the live web and shows numbered sources, with models from several AI labs on paid plans. It's a research tool first rather than an all-purpose assistant, which is why it ranks below the three general assistants. Pro is $17 a month billed annually.

Free assistant and low-cost API · Free app; API from $0.15 per 1M input tokens

    8.3

A free chat app with no paid consumer plan, an API priced well below most US labs, and MIT-licensed open weights. DeepSeek's privacy policy says personal data is collected, processed and stored in the People's Republic of China, and it lists no business plan with admin controls, so keep client data out of it.

    Buying guide

How to Choose the Right Tool

Pick one general assistant and use it for a month before adding another. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini overlap heavily, and paying for two rarely helps.

Start with your main job. Mostly long-form writing or long documents: Claude. Mostly Gmail and Docs: Gemini. Research you need to cite: Perplexity. A bit of everything: ChatGPT.

Price the assistant you may already pay for. Google Workspace business editions include Gemini, and Microsoft 365 Personal and Family include Copilot in the Office apps.

Use a business plan for company or client data. Business and team plans add admin controls and, for ChatGPT, no training on business data by default; personal plans usually rely on each user opting out.

Check monthly vs annual billing. ChatGPT Go and Plus are monthly only, while Claude Pro and Perplexity Pro are cheaper billed annually.
