    Quick answer

What is Vimeo, and is it worth paying for?

Vimeo is a video hosting platform: you upload videos and share or embed them in an ad-free player you can brand, password-protect or restrict to your domains. Paid plans add review tools, AI transcription and translation, screen recording, an AI script generator and, on Advanced and Enterprise, live streaming and marketing integrations. It's worth paying for if you need private or embeddable video without YouTube's ads and recommendations. On October 14, 2026 the pricing page listed Starter at $12 a month billed yearly ($20 monthly), Standard at $25 ($41) and Advanced at $75 ($125). Vimeo is also rolling out new plans (Creator, Core, Professional and a $400-a-month Studio business plan), and its help center says business accounts can be moved to Studio. Embedded video counts against a 2TB monthly bandwidth threshold.

    Best for
Agencies, creators and marketing teams that need ad-free, private or branded video embeds and client review links.
    Skip it if
You want audience growth (use YouTube), deep marketing analytics (Wistia), or predictable pricing during a plan change.
    Strongest capability
A clean, customizable ad-free player with privacy controls, review tools and AI captions on every paid plan.
    Biggest limitation
Plans are mid-overhaul with unpublished prices for the new tiers, and embedded video is subject to a 2TB monthly bandwidth threshold.
    Current cost
Free; Starter $12, Standard $25, Advanced $75 a month billed yearly; Studio $400 a month billed annually.

    The Verdict

Vimeo is still the simplest way to host video that looks professional on your own site: no ads, no recommended videos, a player you can brand, and privacy settings down to individual domains. Every paid plan includes AI transcription and subtitle translation, screen recording and review tools; Standard adds lead capture, CTAs and an AI script generator, and Advanced adds live streaming and HubSpot, Mailchimp and Constant Contact integrations. The case against it in October 2026 is uncertainty. Bending Spoons bought Vimeo in November 2025, the help center describes four new plans being rolled out gradually without public prices for three of them, Vimeo can move accounts it sees as businesses to a $400-a-month Studio plan, and a 2TB monthly bandwidth threshold applies to embedded video. Its own pricing page still contradicts itself on video limits. We score Vimeo 8.4/10.

    The Background

    What Is Vimeo?

Vimeo is a video hosting and sharing service run by Vimeo.com, Inc. in New York; its about page says it was founded in 2004 and has more than 1.7 million paid subscribers in 190-plus countries, which are its own figures. Bending Spoons, the Italian company that also owns StreamYard, WeTransfer and Evernote, acquired Vimeo in November 2025, according to a March 2026 post on Vimeo's blog. You upload videos, organize them in folders and showcases, and share them with links or embed them with an ad-free player whose colors, logo, controls and end screens you can change. Paid plans add privacy by password or domain, review and approval tools, screen and webcam recording, AI transcription, subtitle translation and, on higher tiers, AI scripts, chapters and summaries, lead capture, marketing integrations and live events. Enterprise adds SSO, DRM, HIPAA-compliant playback and APIs for live and webinars.

    The Product

Vimeo Features: What You Actually Get

    Ad-free player, privacy and embeds

Videos play without ads or recommended videos in a player that supports 4K, HDR and Dolby Vision on paid plans. You can hide Vimeo branding, add your logo, password-protect videos, restrict embeds to your own domains and use showcases as simple video portfolios. The pricing FAQ says files can be up to 300GB and 24 hours long on any plan.

A wedding videographer delivers each film on a password-protected page and embeds a highlight reel on their own site without YouTube suggestions.

    Review, recording and editing

Paid plans include time-coded comments and review links for clients, a screen and webcam recorder and basic editing. Standard adds a teleprompter, text-based editing and a brand kit. The free plan allows recordings of up to 30 minutes.

An agency shares a draft ad with a client, who leaves comments at exact timestamps before approving the final cut.

    AI captions, translation and scripts

Every paid plan includes AI transcription, auto captions and subtitle translation, and gets 250 free AI credits; translation costs 10 credits per minute per language, or 20 with translated audio, and credits expire after 30 days. Standard adds an AI script generator; Advanced adds AI-generated summaries and chapters; Enterprise adds highlight reels, Ask AI and audio dubbing. Vimeo says it doesn't use, or let its AI providers use, your videos to train generative models.

A training team uploads an English course and adds Spanish and French subtitles from the same upload.

Lead capture, marketing integrations and live events

Standard adds lead capture forms and calls to action inside videos. Advanced adds HubSpot, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Keap and Campaign Monitor integrations and live streaming: 2 concurrent streams, up to 7 guest speakers, 2 hours of live auto-captions and 100 registrants per event. Enterprise raises live limits and adds Marketo, webinar and live APIs, eCDN and SSO.

A SaaS company runs a monthly product webinar on Advanced and sends registrants to HubSpot for follow-up.

    Vimeo Pricing: Every Plan Explained

These are the plans on Vimeo's pricing page on October 14, 2026, in US dollars. The page labels prices "per seat / month" while its plan data includes 1, 5 or 10 users; Vimeo's help center describes new plans being rolled out alongside them.

For straightforward hosting, Starter at $12 a month billed yearly is the cheapest way to get an ad-free, private player with 2TB of storage; monthly billing costs $20, so yearly saves 40%. Most business buyers end up on Standard for lead capture and CTAs, or Advanced for live events and email-marketing integrations. Two things complicate the decision. First, Vimeo is replacing these plans: its help center describes Creator, Core and Professional plans "being rolled out gradually" with no published prices, and a Studio business plan at $400 a month billed annually, and its plan usage policy says Vimeo can move accounts it identifies as businesses onto Studio. Second, bandwidth: embedded and private video counts against a 2TB monthly threshold, and if you exceed it twice in 12 months (or 10TB once) Vimeo may ask you to upgrade and can suspend videos after 7 days; its terms also allow overage fees. Refunds are limited to the first purchase: 14 days on annual plans and 3 days on monthly plans, excluding renewals, add-ons and Enterprise. Plans renew automatically unless cancelled at least a day before renewal.

    What's changing

Vimeo's new plans and the Bending Spoons era

Bending Spoons agreed to buy Vimeo for about $1.38 billion ($7.85 a share in cash), and a March 2026 post on Vimeo's blog by its new lead refers to the acquisition closing in November 2025. Bending Spoons also owns StreamYard, WeTransfer, Evernote and Meetup.

In August 2026 Vimeo's help center published articles for Creator, Core and Professional plans, each "being rolled out gradually" and possibly not yet available. Creator lists 7TB of total storage with 50GB of managed storage and 1TB of monthly bandwidth; Core lists 300GB of managed storage and 2TB of bandwidth; Professional lists webinars, lead capture and marketing integrations for up to 20 seats. Vimeo hasn't published their prices.

Managed storage, introduced in 2026, counts only embeddable or non-public video; public, non-embeddable video is unlimited. If you downgrade below what you've used, the newest uploads are locked rather than deleted. Separately, Vimeo's plan usage policy lets it move accounts it identifies as businesses, based on domain, seats, billing and usage, onto the $400-a-month Studio plan.

    Where Vimeo's own pages differ

Video limits: the pricing page FAQ says there are no limits on the number of videos and that plans are limited by storage, while the plan descriptions embedded in the same page still say 60, 120 and 240 videos per seat per year for Starter, Standard and Advanced. The help center says the 60-video cap applies to Starter accounts created before June 17, 2024.

The free plan: the page's embedded description says 2 videos a month and 25 in total with 2TB of bandwidth; the help center's free plan article says unlimited public video, 3GB of managed storage and 1TB of bandwidth. The plans comparison marks AI features and auto captions unavailable on Free, while the free plan article lists AI transcription, translation and automatic captions.

Smaller differences: branded invite emails are marked Enterprise-only in the comparison table but listed in the Advanced description; the pricing FAQ says 300GB per file while the Starter article says 250GB for older accounts; and the plans comparison updated October 8, 2026 still lists only Starter, Standard and Advanced.

    The Audience

    Who Should Use Vimeo?

Best for: freelancers and agencies delivering video

Starter's private links, review comments and ad-free embeds make Vimeo a tidy way to deliver and showcase client work for $12 a month billed yearly.

Best for: marketing teams embedding video

Standard adds lead capture and CTAs, and Advanced adds HubSpot, Mailchimp and Constant Contact plus live events. Check your monthly embed views against the 2TB bandwidth threshold first.

Skip if: you want reach or deep video marketing

Creators chasing an audience should publish on YouTube, which is free. Teams that live on video analytics, heatmaps and A/B tests will get more from Wistia.

    The Field

    Vimeo vs The Competition

Vimeo sits between free platforms built for reach and business video platforms built for marketing. Prices below were checked on each vendor's pages on October 14, 2026, in US dollars.

Wistia: Wistia is built for marketing teams that measure video: heatmaps, A/B tests and deeper CRM integrations. It costs more than Vimeo's Standard plan; pick Vimeo for cheaper hosting and review, Wistia for video as a lead channel.Read our Wistia review →

YouTube: YouTube hosts and streams for free and brings an audience, but shows ads and recommended videos and gives you little control over the player. Use YouTube for discovery and Vimeo for clean embeds and private delivery. BestStacked hasn't reviewed YouTube yet.

Vidyard: Vidyard focuses on sales prospecting videos with viewer tracking and CRM alerts. It's a better fit than Vimeo for sales outreach and a weaker one for hosting a video library. BestStacked hasn't reviewed Vidyard yet.

    How People Actually Use Vimeo

    A freelance video editor

Starter ($12 a month billed yearly) covers private client review links and a portfolio showcase with 2TB of storage. Keep client deliverables private or domain-restricted.

    An online course creator

Domain-restricted embeds keep lessons on your course site, and AI subtitles help with translated versions. Estimate monthly views of embedded lessons against the 2TB bandwidth threshold.

    The Final Word

    Should You Use Vimeo?

    8.4/10 Score

Vimeo remains a strong, simple host for ad-free, private and branded video, with AI captions and client review on every paid plan. Its weak spots in late 2026 are commercial: a plan overhaul with unpublished prices, a policy that can move business accounts to a $400-a-month plan, a bandwidth threshold for embeds, and pages that contradict each other. If you buy, prefer monthly billing until your account's new plan is clear. We score Vimeo 8.4/10.
