Quick answer
What is WellSaid, and is it worth paying for?
WellSaid is an AI voiceover studio from WellSaid Labs, Inc. You paste or upload a script, pick one of its voices (all modeled on recordings licensed from voice actors, who are paid residuals), fix pronunciation, and download narration with commercial rights on any paid plan. It's worth paying for if you produce English training, e-learning or product videos and value consistent voices, pronunciation tools and clear licensing over voice cloning or dozens of languages. Self-serve plans are English-only and don't include the API. Starter costs $10 a month billed annually ($19 monthly), Pro $33 ($49), and Business $160 per user a month on annual billing, checked on WellSaid's pricing page on October 13, 2026.
- Best for
- Instructional designers and marketing teams producing English narration who want licensed voices and pronunciation control.
- Skip it if
- You need voice cloning, many languages or API access without an Enterprise contract; ElevenLabs offers all three on self-serve plans.
- Strongest capability
- Licensing and consistency: voices built from consenting, paid voice actors, no user voice cloning, commercial rights on every paid plan, and respelling tools for names and jargon.
- Biggest limitation
- Narrow self-serve plans: English only, no API below Enterprise, download-minute quotas that reset each cycle, and no refunds.
The Verdict
WellSaid is built for one job, business narration, and does it with an unusually clear ethical and licensing model: every voice is modeled on licensed recordings from voice actors who gave written consent and are paid residuals, users can't clone voices themselves, and paid plans include commercial rights. Its script-first studio, respellings, pronunciation library and voice cues target the e-learning and training teams that make up much of its audience. The June 2026 repricing added cheap Starter ($10 a month billed annually) and Pro ($33) plans measured in downloaded minutes, with unlimited generation. The limits are real, though. Non-English languages, the API, SSO and 96 kHz audio are Enterprise only, Business is annual-only at $160 per user, unused minutes reset each cycle, and WellSaid doesn't issue refunds. ElevenLabs and Murf offer more languages and features for less. We score WellSaid 8.0/10.
Best for
Training and marketing teams that need consistent, licensed English narration and care about how the voices were made.
Skip if
You need voice cloning, multilingual output or API access on a self-serve budget.

The Background
What Is WellSaid?
WellSaid is a text-to-speech platform from WellSaid Labs, Inc. Its site moved from wellsaidlabs.com to wellsaid.io, though its API docs, trust center and support email still use the old domain. In WellSaid Studio you write or upload a script, choose a voice and style (narration, conversational, promo or character), adjust pronunciation with respellings and a shared pronunciation library, add voice cues for pace, pitch and emphasis, and download audio. Its newest voice model, Caruso, launched in March 2025. WellSaid's homepage advertises 280+ voices in one place and 240+ voice models in another. Self-serve plans include English voices with American, British, Australian, Canadian, Indian, Irish, Scottish and South African accents; 17 other languages are Enterprise only. Custom voices built from a client's own consenting voice talent are available through WellSaid, but users can't clone voices themselves.
The Product
WellSaid Features: What You Actually Get
Script-first studio and voice cues
WellSaid's studio, redesigned in October 2025 and unified across models in February 2026, works from the script down: you paste or upload text, split it into sections, generate all at once and reorder by drag and drop. Voice cues control pace, pitch, loudness and emotion, and a Smart Toolbar (November 2025) can rewrite text for speech or add emphasis. Paid plans have unlimited generation; only downloads count against your minutes.
An instructional designer pastes a 20-minute compliance module, generates every section, adjusts the pacing on two tricky paragraphs and downloads the finished narration.
Pronunciation control
Respellings fix how a word is said, a pronunciation library stores replacements across projects (shared as a Team Library on team plans), and Smart Suggestions propose respellings for names, acronyms and numbers.
A pharma training team saves respellings for 40 drug names so every module pronounces them the same way.
Licensed, consent-based voices
WellSaid says its voice actors gave written consent for their AI likeness and are paid residuals on customer usage, and that it has never let users clone voices independently. Its services agreement assigns you its rights in the audio you generate, while the voice models remain WellSaid's. Content moderation bans impersonation without consent, hate speech and explicit content.
A brand team that has to document the provenance of every asset uses WellSaid voices because the licensing chain is published.
Teams, formats and audio quality
Business plans add a shared team workspace, team library and team voices, with pooled download minutes across up to five seats. Free and Starter download MP3 only; Pro adds TXT; Business and Enterprise add WAV and OGG. The pricing page lists 24 kHz audio on Free to Pro, 48 kHz on Business and 96 kHz on Enterprise.
A three-person learning team on Business shares one pronunciation library and pooled minutes, exporting WAV files for its authoring tool.
API and enterprise features
The REST API, including a streaming endpoint, isn't included in Starter, Pro or Business; ongoing access needs Enterprise, after a trial key. Enterprise also adds the 17 non-English languages, translation (March 2026), SSO (SAML and OIDC), custom workspaces and moderation, SOC 2 reports and a 1-hour chat SLA.
A global training company on Enterprise generates English and Spanish narration through the API and signs in with single sign-on.
Feature recap
- Script-first studio with voice cues and unlimited generation on paid plans
- Respellings, pronunciation library and Smart Suggestions
- Voices from consenting, paid voice actors; no user voice cloning
- Commercial rights on all paid plans
- English voices with regional accents; 17 more languages on Enterprise
- Adobe Express and Premiere Pro integrations
- API, SSO and translation on Enterprise
The Numbers
WellSaid Pricing: Every Plan Explained
Since June 2026, WellSaid prices self-serve plans by downloaded minutes; generating and previewing audio is unlimited on paid plans. Annual plans get the full year's minutes up front. Prices below are from WellSaid's pricing page, checked October 13, 2026, in USD. WellSaid says pricing is for new customers.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | Included Features | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free trial | $0 | — | 1 seat, 3 download minutes, 10 minutes of generation, 3 projects; MP3 at 24 kHz; no commercial rights; no card required | Hearing the voices |
| Starter | $19/mo | $10/mo ($120 a year) | 1 seat, 20 download minutes a month (240 a year on annual), commercial rights, MP3, email support | Occasional narration |
| ProBest value | $49/mo | $33/mo ($396 a year) | 1 seat, 180 download minutes a month (2,160 a year on annual), MP3 and TXT, commercial rights, email support | Regular solo production |
| Business | Not offered | $160/user/mo ($1,920 a year) | 1-5 seats, 2,880 download minutes a year per user (pooled), team workspace and library, WAV/OGG at 48 kHz, live chat with a 4-hour SLA | Small training and marketing teams |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | API, 17 additional languages, translation, SSO, 96 kHz audio, custom workspaces and moderation, SOC 2 reports, priority chat with a 1-hour SLA | Large and global organizations |
The unit to compare is downloaded minutes. Starter's 20 minutes a month suits a few short videos; Pro's 180 covers regular production for one person. Business is a big step: $160 per user a month, billed annually only, for 2,880 minutes a year per user, so a three-person team pays $5,760 a year (our arithmetic). Unused minutes reset at the start of each billing cycle, and add-on minutes, available on Starter, Pro and Business, renew monthly and aren't refundable. WellSaid's refund article says it doesn't issue refunds, reimbursements or credits, even for unused time, and its services agreement makes payments non-refundable with automatic renewal. After you cancel, WellSaid keeps projects for up to five years but you can't access or download them while the subscription is inactive. Existing Business and Enterprise customers stay on download-based plans until their contracts end.
Rights
What you can do with WellSaid voices
All paid plans include full commercial usage rights; the free trial doesn't. WellSaid's help center puts it simply: you may use the voices commercially, but you can't claim ownership of them. Its online services agreement (effective August 13, 2025) assigns you whatever rights WellSaid has in the audio outputs, excludes the voice models themselves, and bars using the service to build a competing AI model or reselling the service.
On training, WellSaid's agreement says it won't use customer data to train its or any third party's AI models, and its pricing and security pages say the same.

Where WellSaid's own pages differ
Voices and languages: the homepage says 280+ voices in one section and 240+ voice models in another, and cites 18 and 50+ languages, while the help center lists 17 global languages (Enterprise only) and a voice list mentions 30+ languages.
API trial: the API product page describes a 7-day trial, while the help center describes a 14-day trial with up to 50 calls.
Cancellation: the help center says to cancel at least two days before renewal; the services agreement says at least 24 hours.
48 kHz audio: the pricing page includes it on Business, while November 2025 release notes describe 48 and 96 kHz as Enterprise only.

The Audience
Who Should Use WellSaid?
Best for: e-learning and training teams
Instructional designers producing English modules get consistent voices, pronunciation control for jargon, and licensing they can document for compliance reviews.
Best for: brands that care about voice provenance
If your legal team wants to know where a synthetic voice came from, WellSaid's consent-and-residuals model and no-cloning policy are easier to defend than open voice libraries.
Skip if: you need languages, cloning or an API
Creators and developers who want multilingual output, their own cloned voice or API access on a self-serve plan will find ElevenLabs a better fit, and Murf covers more languages for training content.

In The Wild
How People Actually Use WellSaid
An instructional designer making 10 short modules a month
Pro ($33 a month billed annually) gives 2,160 download minutes a year, front-loaded on annual billing, with commercial rights. Build a pronunciation library early so terminology stays consistent.
A three-person learning and development team
Business ($160 a user, billed annually) adds a shared workspace, pooled minutes and WAV export. Check whether you need non-English voices before signing, since those are Enterprise only.
A product marketer making a demo video
Starter at $10 a month billed annually covers occasional English voiceovers; the Adobe Express add-on (Starter and up) drops narration straight into your project.
The Ecosystem
WellSaid Integrations
WellSaid's integrations are few and centered on Adobe tools; broader integration needs the Enterprise API.
- →Adobe Express add-on (Starter and up)
- →Adobe Premiere Pro extension (full access on Business and Enterprise)
- →REST API with streaming (Enterprise)
- →SSO via SAML or OIDC (Enterprise)
WellSaid's integrations page lists only Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Express. An earlier Canva app appears to have been retired; we couldn't confirm a current Canva integration on WellSaid's pages on October 13, 2026.

WellSaid FAQ
The Final Word
Should You Use WellSaid?
WellSaid is a focused, well-governed choice for English business narration: licensed voices from paid, consenting actors, commercial rights on every paid plan, strong pronunciation tools and, since June 2026, an affordable Starter plan. It's not the tool for multilingual work, voice cloning or developers on a budget, since those features sit on Enterprise. Use the free trial to hear the voices on your own scripts, choose a plan by download minutes, and remember that payments aren't refundable. We score WellSaid 8.0/10.
Yes, if
You produce English training, e-learning or marketing narration and want licensed voices with consistent pronunciation.
No, if
You need many languages, your own cloned voice or API access without an Enterprise contract.
