The Verdict
Wispr Flow is a practical upgrade over built-in dictation for people who write all day. It works in any text field on four platforms, cleans up filler words and self-corrections, applies a writing style per kind of app, and remembers names and jargon through a personal dictionary. The free plan is usable for light dictation, and Pro at $12 a month billed annually removes the word cap and adds Command Mode for editing text by voice. The trade-offs are real: every dictation goes through Wispr's cloud, there's no offline mode, Styles only apply in English, and Wispr's own pages disagree on some privacy and plan details for teams. For individuals and small teams who are comfortable with cloud processing, it's easy to recommend. We score it 9.0/10.

The Background
What Is Wispr Flow?
Wispr Flow is an AI voice-to-text app. On Mac and Windows you hold a shortcut, speak and release, and Flow types the cleaned-up text into whatever app has focus. On iPhone you use the Flow keyboard, widgets, Control Center or Siri shortcuts, and on Android a floating Flow Bubble. Flow removes filler words, adds punctuation, handles spoken corrections such as "2, actually 3", and formats lists and emails. It supports more than 100 languages, a personal dictionary, spoken snippets and per-app writing styles. Paid plans add Command Mode, which edits or drafts text from a spoken instruction. Wispr also bundles a Notetaker that records meetings on Mac and Windows without a bot joining the call. Transcription always happens in Wispr's cloud, in the United States, so Flow needs an internet connection.

Wispr Flow Features: What You Actually Get
Dictation in any app
Flow types into any text field on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android with no per-app setup. Desktop dictation sessions can run up to 20 minutes. Hands-free mode lets you lock recording on instead of holding the shortcut.
A founder answers Slack threads, drafts a Google Doc and replies to Gmail by voice without switching tools or pasting text.
Smart Formatting and Backtrack
Smart Formatting removes filler words, fixes punctuation and capitalization, and turns "first, second" into a list. Backtrack drops false starts and self-corrections. Wispr notes that Smart Formatting doesn't fix misheard words.
A manager dictates a rambling status update and gets a clean, punctuated paragraph with the corrected numbers.
Styles per app category
Styles set capitalization and punctuation for Personal, Work, Email and Other apps, with options from Formal to very casual. Email adds greetings, sign-offs and line breaks. Wispr says style formatting applies in English only.
Messages to friends come out casual and lowercase, while the same voice in Outlook produces a formal email.
Dictionary and snippets
Add names and technical terms to the dictionary so they transcribe correctly. Snippets expand a spoken trigger into saved text, such as a signature or scheduling link, on every plan including Free. Desktop triggers are capped at 60 characters and expansions at 4,000. Pro and team plans can share both across a team.
A sales rep says "my booking link" and Flow pastes the full calendar URL and a sentence of context.
Command Mode (paid plans)
Command Mode takes a spoken instruction and edits the text box contents or selected text, drafts a reply, or opens a Perplexity search. It's an experimental setting you turn on in Settings, works fully on Mac and Windows, and only supports search on iOS. Free accounts get a "Flow commands only available on Flow Pro" message.
A writer selects a paragraph, holds the shortcut and says "make this shorter and friendlier", and Flow replaces it.
Developer support
On Mac and Windows, Flow can recognize variable, function and class names visible in Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code, and turns spoken filenames into @-tags in Cursor and Windsurf AI chat. Wispr says these work on all plans.

Notetaker and MCP access
The Notetaker records meetings and voice memos on Mac and Windows with no bot joining the call, identifies speakers and answers questions across meetings. A read-only MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Cursor read your meeting summaries, notes and transcripts. Free accounts have a weekly meeting limit.
After a client call, a consultant asks Claude to pull the action items from that meeting's notes through Wispr's MCP server.

Wispr Flow has a free plan and three paid tiers, priced per user. Annual billing is 20% cheaper than monthly on Pro and Growth. Growth has two prices depending on whether you add unlimited Notetaker access. Wispr sets prices per currency across 24 currencies rather than converting from US dollars. Prices checked on October 11, 2026, with both the monthly and annual toggles.

Most individuals should start on Free and move to Pro once the weekly cap bites. Pro is where unlimited dictation and Command Mode start, and at $144 a year it costs the same as Willow's Pro plan on annual billing. Growth only makes sense if you need SAML SSO, enforced HIPAA or admin controls; it costs $6 more per user a month than Pro on annual billing, or $14 more with unlimited Notetaker. Wispr's help center lists a paid Student plan at $7.50 a month or $72 a year, half the Pro price, and says selected students get a free annual plan. Wispr says you can cancel anytime, but its billing article says there's no automatic prorated refund.

What Wispr Flow costs for 1, 5 and 10 users
These are our calculations from Wispr Flow's published US prices on October 11, 2026, not quotes.
Calculation 1, one person. Pro billed annually is $144 a year ($12 a month). Monthly billing is $15 × 12 = $180 a year, so annual saves $36. A student on the paid Student plan pays $72 a year. For comparison, Superwhisper Pro is $84.99 a year and Aqua Voice Pro is $8 × 12 = $96 a year.
Calculation 2, a five-person team on Pro. 5 × $12 = $60 a month billed annually ($720 a year), or 5 × $15 = $75 a month billed monthly ($900 a year). Pro has no minimum seat count, and it already includes shared snippets and centralized billing.
Calculation 3, a ten-person team that needs SSO. Growth dictation-only is 10 × $18 = $180 a month billed annually ($2,160 a year). With unlimited Notetaker it's 10 × $26 = $260 a month ($3,120 a year). On monthly billing the same team pays 10 × $23 = $230 or 10 × $33 = $330 a month. The same ten users on Pro would pay $1,440 a year, so SSO and admin controls cost $720 a year extra before the Notetaker add-on.

Flow recognizes variable names in Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code and tags files by name in Cursor and Windsurf chat, on all plans. Long spoken prompts are faster to give than to type.
Skip if: you need offline or on-device dictation
Flow sends every dictation to Wispr's cloud and doesn't work without a connection. Superwhisper advertises offline use with local models, and Apple Dictation is free and built into your devices.

This is an editorial review, not a documented hands-on test. We didn't use a Wispr Flow account. On October 11, 2026, we checked Wispr Flow's pricing page with both the monthly and annual toggles and the Growth Notetaker toggle, its homepage and privacy page, and its help center articles on plans, trials, discounts, billing and cancellation, system requirements, Command Mode, Styles, snippets, languages, IDE support, MCP, security and HIPAA. The cost scenarios are our calculations from published list prices. Wispr doesn't publish the length of its individual Pro trial, desktop free-tier slowdown thresholds or uptime figures, and its pages disagree on some Growth plan details, which we note in this review instead of guessing.

Budget for Growth only if you need SSO or enforced HIPAA, and check Wispr's privacy terms closely, because its pages describe Growth's model training controls in different ways.
