SocialPilot vs Buffer: Which Social Scheduler Fits You?
Account-based agency plans against per-channel pricing with a free tier, compared on cost, client workflows, inbox, analytics and integrations from each vendor's own pages.
The Short Answer
Pick Buffer if you're one person or a small team with a handful of channels: the Free plan covers 3 channels, and Essentials costs $5 per channel a month billed yearly, so three channels are $15 a month with analytics included. Pick SocialPilot if you manage many accounts or clients: Standard covers 15 accounts and 3 users for $42.50 a month billed annually, and Premium adds client seats, client approvals and white-label reports for 25 accounts at $85. Buffer has API access on every plan; SocialPilot reserves its API for Enterprise but includes message and story replies in its inbox. Research-based comparison; prices checked October 19, 2026.
The 5 Rounds
Where each tool actually wins
Round 1 / Small Setups
Round 1: Cost and free plan for one person
The two vendors price in different units. Buffer charges for each connected channel, while SocialPilot sells plans with a set number of social accounts and users. For a solo creator or founder posting to a few networks, that difference decides most of the bill.
- 01Buffer has a free plan: up to 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time, 100 ideas, the AI Assistant and comment replies. SocialPilot has no free plan, only a 14-day trial with no card required.
- 02Buffer Essentials costs $5 per channel a month billed yearly or $6 monthly, so three channels cost $15 a month ($180 a year) with advanced analytics and reports included.
- 03SocialPilot Essentials costs $25.50 a month billed annually ($306 a year) or $30 monthly for 7 accounts and one user, but it has no analytics, inbox or approval workflows.
- 04Buffer stays cheaper up to five channels on yearly billing ($25 a month); at six channels Buffer Essentials ($30) costs more than SocialPilot Essentials ($25.50), though only Buffer's plan includes analytics.
What SocialPilot still got right
SocialPilot Essentials covers up to 7 accounts at a flat price, so someone posting to six or seven networks who doesn't need analytics pays less than on Buffer.
Round 2 / Agency Workflow
Round 2: Clients, approvals and reports
Agencies and freelancers need more than a queue: clients who can approve posts, reports with the agency's branding, and a way to load a month of content at once. This is where the two products diverge most.
- 01SocialPilot Premium ($85 a month billed annually) includes unlimited client seats, client approval workflows, white-label reports, custom and competitor reports, and bulk scheduling with CSV upload.
- 02SocialPilot Standard ($42.50) already includes team collaboration and manager approval for 3 users; Ultimate adds Advanced White Label, migration help and a dedicated account manager.
- 03Buffer Team ($10 per channel a month billed yearly) includes unlimited users, approval workflows, custom access and permissions, and branded reports.
- 04Buffer's pricing page lists no client seats, white-label option or CSV bulk upload, so clients who approve posts would need to be added as team members.
What Buffer still got right
Buffer Team's unlimited users cost nothing extra per person, and its approval workflows and branded reports cover what a small in-house team usually needs.
Round 3 / Cost at Scale
Round 3: What 15 or 25 accounts cost
We priced both at the account counts agencies and multi-location businesses actually run (our calculations from published prices, tax excluded). Buffer doesn't publish its rate for channels above 10, so those totals are ranges.
- 0115 accounts and 3 people with approvals: SocialPilot Standard is $510 a year billed annually. Buffer Team is $1,200 a year for the first 10 channels alone, plus 5 more at a discounted rate Buffer doesn't publish.
- 0225 accounts, 6 people, client approvals and branded reports: SocialPilot Premium is $1,020 a year billed annually. Buffer Team starts at $1,200 a year for the first 10 channels, before the other 15.
- 03Growing past a plan: SocialPilot adds accounts at $4 a month and users at $5; Buffer adds channels at its per-channel rate and never charges for users on Team.
- 04Annual savings: SocialPilot shows yearly billing as 15% off. Buffer's plan cards show $5 against $6 per channel, while its FAQ says annual billing is 20% off.
What Buffer still got right
Buffer never charges per user, so a large team posting to a few channels pays less on Buffer Team than on any SocialPilot plan that fits the same headcount.
Round 4 / Inbox & Analytics
Round 4: Replies and reporting after you publish
- 01Buffer includes a comment inbox on every plan, including Free, covering Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, X, TikTok, Google Business Profile, YouTube and Mastodon, with AI reply suggestions.
- 02SocialPilot's inbox starts on Standard and covers replies to posts and comments, messages and stories, plus inbox automation. Buffer's pricing page doesn't list direct messages.
- 03Buffer Essentials adds advanced analytics, reports and custom UTMs; SocialPilot Standard adds analytics, PDF reports and scheduled email reports, with competitor and custom reports on Premium.
- 04Neither offers social listening across the wider web on the plans compared here.
What the other tool still got right
It depends on the work: teams that answer DMs and story replies fit SocialPilot Standard, while solo users who only reply to comments get that from Buffer at no cost.
Round 5 / Integrations & API
Round 5: Networks, automation and API access
- 01Buffer includes API access on every plan (1 key on Free, 3 on Essentials, 5 on Team) and lists Zapier, Make, n8n, Power Automate and IFTTT, plus Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor connections.
- 02SocialPilot includes an MCP server, Zapier, Slack, Canva and cloud-storage imports on every plan, but its API and SSO are Enterprise-only.
- 03Networks: both cover Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, Google Business and Bluesky; Buffer also lists Mastodon and Substack.
- 04Both offer mobile apps and a browser extension, and both connect to Canva for importing designs.
What SocialPilot still got right
SocialPilot's MCP server and Slack integration come on every plan, and its link-shortener and Shopify, WordPress and Zillow integrations suit agencies and real estate teams.

Know the tradeoffs
Limitations of each tool
Where SocialPilot falls short
- No free plan. There's a 14-day trial with no card, but after that the cheapest plan is $25.50 a month billed annually.
- Essentials is a scheduler only: no analytics, inbox or approval workflows until Standard.
- API access and SSO are Enterprise-only, and self-serve plans get 24x5 support rather than 24x7.
- Refunds are narrow. The terms rule out refunds on annual subscriptions and prorated refunds after a day of use.
Where Buffer falls short
- Every channel adds to the bill, and Buffer doesn't publish its discounted rate above 10 channels.
- No client seats, white-label reports or CSV bulk upload listed on the pricing page.
- The inbox covers comment replies; direct messages aren't listed on the pricing page.
- The Free plan caps you at 3 channels and 10 scheduled posts per channel, and Buffer's FAQ (20% annual discount) and plan cards ($5 vs $6) describe the yearly saving differently.

The Verdict
Overall winner: Tie
There's no single winner here; the right pick depends on how many accounts you run and who needs to touch them. Buffer is the better buy for solo creators, founders and small teams with a short channel list. Its free plan is usable for three channels, Essentials adds analytics at $5 per channel a month billed yearly, Team never charges per user, and every plan includes API access. SocialPilot is the better buy once accounts and clients multiply. Standard covers 15 accounts, 3 users, an inbox with messages and analytics for $42.50 a month billed annually, and Premium adds the agency features Buffer doesn't list, client seats, client approvals, white-label reports and CSV bulk scheduling, for 25 accounts at $85. The crossover is roughly six channels for one person and far earlier for teams that need approvals. Two cautions: SocialPilot doesn't refund annual plans, so use its 14-day trial first, and Buffer doesn't publish its rate above 10 channels, so price a large portfolio at checkout before committing.
If you only have $20
Buffer Free for up to 3 channels; Buffer Essentials ($5 per channel a month billed yearly) for a few more with analytics.
If money's not the issue
SocialPilot Premium ($85 a month billed annually) for agencies; Ultimate if you need 50 accounts and unlimited users.
