Quick answer
Is Filmora worth it, and which plan should you buy?
Filmora is a desktop video editor from Wondershare for Windows and Mac, with a mobile app, a template and effects library, and AI tools that run on monthly credits. On October 19, 2026, the free version exported with a watermark. Basic cost $49.99 a year with no AI credits, Advanced $59.99 a year with 1,000 AI credits a month, and Premium $99.99 a year with 2,000 credits and 100 GB of cloud storage; a perpetual license for Filmora 16 cost $79.99 once. That makes it one of the cheapest paid editors we've reviewed. The catches: licenses are tied to Windows or Mac, unused AI credits don't roll over, and Wondershare's refund policy excludes change-of-mind requests despite a 30-day money-back headline.
- Best for
- Creators and small teams who edit on a timeline and want templates and occasional AI help without a monthly bill.
- Skip it if
- You edit mainly by transcript (Descript), in a browser with a team (Veed), or need a professional post-production pipeline (Premiere Pro).
- Strongest capability
- A full timeline editor, with multicam, keyframes, tracking and color tools, for $49.99 a year or $79.99 once.
- Biggest limitation
- AI features need Advanced or Premium credits, which reset every 30 days, and each license works on one operating system.
- Current cost
- Free (watermark); Basic $49.99/yr; Advanced $59.99/yr; Premium $99.99/yr; perpetual $79.99; Team from $155.88/user/yr.
The Verdict
Filmora is a timeline video editor for people who want more than a phone app but less than a professional suite. Wondershare documents a full editing toolset on every plan, including multicam editing, keyframes, planar and motion tracking, HSL, curves and LUT color tools, and a large library of effects, titles, music and stock media, plus AI tools for captions, text-based editing, voice, short clips and generation. Pricing is the main draw: Basic is $49.99 a year, Advanced with 1,000 AI credits a month is $59.99, and a perpetual license is $79.99. The trade-offs are in the details. AI features consume credits that reset every 30 days, Basic includes none, licenses are tied to Windows or Mac, the Team plan excludes AI credits and creative assets, and Wondershare's refund policy rules out refunds for change of mind or dissatisfaction with AI output despite the 30-day money-back headline. We score Filmora 8.0/10.

The Background
What Is Filmora?
Filmora is a desktop video editor made by Wondershare, now at version 16. It runs on Windows (7 through 11, including native Windows on ARM support) and macOS, and Wondershare links a separate Filmora mobile app from its specifications page. You import or record footage, cut it on a timeline, add titles, transitions, effects, music and color correction, then export for YouTube, social platforms or other formats; Wondershare says exports go up to 4K on paid plans and that the editor accepts footage up to 8K. Around the editor sit Filmora Creative Assets (templates, stock media, music and effects), Filmora Cloud storage, and AI tools that use Filmora AI credits. The free version has the basic editing features but adds a watermark to exports. Filmora isn't a collaborative, browser-based editor, a screen-recording course platform or a professional finishing suite; teams that need shared review or broadcast delivery usually pair or replace it with other tools.
The Product
Filmora Features: What You Actually Get
Timeline editing and effects
Every paid plan includes what Wondershare lists as 100+ advanced editing features: a magnetic timeline, multicam editing, keyframe animation, planar and motion tracking, HSL, RGB curves, white balance and 3D LUTs, plus a screen recorder that keeps camera, mic and system audio on separate tracks. Filmora 16 adds dual timelines, a pen tool for motion paths, color masks and 360° reframing, per its product page.
A YouTuber records a screen tutorial with a webcam overlay, then trims pauses and adds titles on the timeline.
AI tools on credits
Wondershare lists more than 20 AI features that use Filmora AI credits, including AI text-based editing, speech-to-text (27 languages) and text-to-speech (28), voice cloning, Smart Short Clips, AI Video Enhancer, object removal, image-to-video and Video Extend. Advanced includes 1,000 credits a month and Premium 2,000; Basic has none. Credits are issued every 30 days and unused credits are reclaimed. Some AI tools, such as Auto Reframe and Smart Search, don't use credits on Advanced and Premium.
A podcaster on Advanced generates captions and vertical highlight clips from a long episode, within the month's credits.
Creative assets and cloud storage
The pricing table lists a free-tier library (for example 1,500+ effects and 600+ stock media items) and a much larger paid library (18K+ effects, 52K+ titles, 45K+ music tracks and 1.1M+ stock media). Paid plans include cloud storage: 1 GB on Basic, 10 GB on Advanced and 100 GB on Premium. Wondershare also sells a separate Creative Assets subscription; see the conflicting-pages note below.
A small-business marketer builds a product promo from a template, stock clips and licensed music in an afternoon.
Delivery and handoff
Filmora exports in multiple formats and, on paid plans, up to 4K without a watermark. Multi-version delivery reframes one edit for different aspect ratios and languages, and Filmora can import supported XML timelines and export a timeline as Final Cut Pro 7 XML when a project needs to move to another editor.
An educator exports one lesson as a 16:9 YouTube video and a 9:16 short from the same project.

The Numbers
Filmora Pricing: Every Plan Explained
These are USD prices from Filmora's Individuals pricing page on October 19, 2026, read in a browser in the Windows and Mac views (the yearly prices were the same) with the Annual and Perpetual toggles. Yearly plans renew automatically. No monthly plan was listed for individuals when we checked. Tax may be added at checkout.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | Included Features | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Basic editing features, smaller asset library, AI Mate 15 uses a day; exports carry a watermark | Trying the editor |
| Basic | $4.17/mo billed yearly | $49.99/yr | Full editor, no watermark, 4K export, paid asset library, 1 GB cloud; no AI credits | Editing without AI tools |
| AdvancedBest value | $5.00/mo billed yearly | $59.99/yr | Basic plus 1,000 AI credits a month, 10 GB cloud, credit-free AI tools such as Auto Reframe | Creators who use AI captions and clips |
| Premium | $8.33/mo billed yearly | $99.99/yr | Advanced plus 2,000 AI credits a month and 100 GB cloud; card says Creative Assets are included | Heavy AI users who want the bundle |
| Perpetual | One-time | $79.99 once | Filmora 16 with updates within version 16, 1,000 one-time AI credits, 1 GB cloud | People who dislike subscriptions |
| Team | Annual only | $155.88 per user a year | Editing features, commercial-use permission, multi-user control; no AI credits or Creative Assets | Businesses buying licenses for staff |
Pricing scenarios (our calculations from Wondershare's and rivals' published USD prices, October 19, 2026; tax excluded). Filmora Advanced at $59.99 a year is $10 more than Basic and adds 1,000 AI credits a month, so it's the better buy for anyone who'll use captions or AI clips. The perpetual license ($79.99) costs less than two years of Basic ($99.98) but stops at Filmora 16 and includes a one-time batch of 1,000 credits, not a monthly allowance. Premium ($99.99) makes sense mainly if you want 2,000 credits a month and 100 GB of cloud storage. Against rivals checked the same day, Descript Hobbyist costs $192 a year billed annually, Veed Creator $147 a year and Premiere Pro $22.99 a month on an annual plan ($275.88 a year), so Filmora is the lowest-cost paid option here. Two costs to watch: licenses are platform-specific, so editing on both a Windows PC and a Mac means two purchases, and the separate Creative Assets subscription is offered at $19.99 a month after a 14-day trial. Cancel at least 24 hours before a renewal; Wondershare doesn't refund renewals you forgot to cancel.

Refunds, licenses and credits
Refunds: the pricing page says every product comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee "subject to our Refund Policy." That policy gives most products bought directly from Wondershare a refund window of up to 30 days from the first payment, but lists change of mind, a product not meeting expectations, dissatisfaction with AI output, consumed credits, renewals you didn't cancel and purchases through app stores or resellers as not eligible. Eligible cases include duplicate purchases, buying the wrong product and then the right one without using the first, and critical technical issues not solved within 7 days. EU residents have a 14-day withdrawal right.
Licenses: Wondershare says Filmora licenses are platform-specific: a Windows license works only on Windows and a Mac license only on Mac, and Basic and Advanced are single-user. AI credits are the exception, shared across Windows and Mac under one Wondershare account. Perpetual licenses get updates within the current major version (Filmora 16) but not upgrades to the next one.
Credits: subscription credits are issued every 30 days from the purchase date, and any unused credits from the previous period are reclaimed when new ones arrive. If you rarely use AI tools, Basic or the perpetual license costs less; if you rely on them weekly, budget for Advanced or Premium.

Where Wondershare's pages differ
Creative assets: the Basic and Advanced plan cards list "2.9M+ Filmora Creative Assets," while the same cards offer a separate Creative Assets subscription ("renew US$ 19.99/mo ... Software Not Included") and the Premium card lists Creative Assets as a $99.99-a-year component. The free-edition FAQ says the full Creative Assets library requires an upgrade. Check what your plan includes at checkout.
Money-back guarantee: the pricing page promises a 30-day money-back guarantee on all products, while the refund policy excludes requests based on change of mind or unmet expectations. Read the refund policy, not just the headline, before buying.
Scoring
How the score is built
BestStacked weights five sub-scores: ease of use 20%, features 25%, pricing 20%, support 15% and integrations 20%. For Filmora they come only from Wondershare's own pages, not from testing, and are calibrated against our Veed, Descript and Premiere Pro reviews. Ease of use 8.6: a template-driven timeline editor with a free version to learn on, but desktop-only editing and per-platform licenses. Features 8.4: multicam, tracking, keyframes, color tools, a screen recorder and a long list of AI tools, but AI use is capped by credits and there's no browser-based collaboration. Pricing 8.2: the lowest paid entry among the editors we compare and a perpetual option, offset by credits that don't roll over, a separate assets subscription and a refund policy narrower than its headline. Support 7.4: live chat and email with a 24-hour email response, but no phone or dedicated account support for individuals. Integrations 7.0: XML import and Final Cut Pro 7 XML export, multi-format export and cloud storage, but few direct connections to other apps. That works out to 8.0 out of 10.

The Methodology
How We Reviewed Filmora
This is an editorial review, not a hands-on test. We didn't install or use Filmora for this review and make no claims about rendering speed, output quality or AI accuracy; capabilities are described as Wondershare documents them. It's based on Wondershare's own pages, all checked on October 19, 2026: the Filmora Individuals pricing page (read in a browser in the Windows and Mac views, with the Annual and Perpetual toggles and its FAQs), the Team and Business page, the Wondershare refund policy, the Filmora 16 product page and the tech specifications page. Competitor prices come from Descript's, Veed's and Adobe's pricing pages the same day. Where Wondershare's pages differ, we report both. In The Wild
How People Actually Use Filmora
A YouTube creator
Advanced at $59.99 a year covers editing, captions and vertical short clips from long videos within 1,000 credits a month. Keep projects on one operating system, since the license is platform-specific.
A small-business marketer
Basic at $49.99 a year, plus templates and stock media, covers product promos and social clips. If several staff need licenses with commercial-use permission, the Team plan is $155.88 per user a year without AI credits.
A teacher building course videos
Record the screen and webcam on separate tracks, trim on the timeline and export lessons in several aspect ratios. The perpetual license suits a school that can't run subscriptions.
The Ecosystem
Filmora Integrations
Filmora is a standalone desktop editor. These are the connections and handoffs Wondershare documents.
- →Windows and macOS desktop apps, plus a mobile app
- →Filmora Cloud storage (1 GB to 100 GB by plan)
- →Filmora Creative Assets library
- →XML timeline import and Final Cut Pro 7 XML export
- →Exports in multiple formats for YouTube and social platforms

Filmora FAQ
The Final Word
Should You Use Filmora?
Filmora is a strong value for solo creators, educators and small businesses who edit on one computer: a full timeline editor with tracking, color tools, templates and AI options from $49.99 a year, or $79.99 once. Advanced at $59.99 is the plan most people should buy, because it adds 1,000 AI credits a month for $10 more. Go in knowing the limits: credits reset every 30 days, licenses are tied to Windows or Mac, and Wondershare's refund policy is narrower than its 30-day headline, so use the free version first. Choose Descript for transcript-based editing, Veed for browser-based team work, or Premiere Pro for professional post-production. We score Filmora 8.0/10.
