ClickUp's promise — 'one app to replace them all' — is mostly delivered in 2026. You get tasks, docs, whiteboards, chat, dashboards, time tracking, goals, and AI in a single workspace, starting at $9/user/mo billed yearly ($12 monthly) on Core. The trade-off is UX density: ClickUp puts everything on screen and the learning curve is steep. ClickUp Brain² AI now comes inside every plan with a pooled monthly credit allowance (1,000 credits per user on Core, 1,500 on Business), and extra AI Super Credits cost $10 per 10,000. What Is ClickUp?
ClickUp is a productivity platform that bundles tasks, projects, docs, whiteboards, chat, time tracking, dashboards, goals, and AI into one app. The hierarchy is Workspace → Spaces → Folders → Lists → Tasks → Subtasks, which is deeper nesting than most competitors and is both a strength (deep organization) and a weakness (cognitive overhead). ClickApps let you toggle features on per Space — custom fields, time tracking, dependencies, sprints, automations, milestones, and more — so each Space can be tuned to its team's workflow. Views are first-class: list, board, calendar, gantt, timeline, mind map, workload, table, activity, embed. ClickUp Docs are wiki-grade documents that can embed tasks and dashboards. Whiteboards cover basic brainstorming and diagramming. ClickUp Chat (unlimited from Core) attempts to replace Slack for project comms. ClickUp Brain — the AI layer — handles writing, summaries, autofill, Q&A across the workspace, and natural-language queries. Most of the value sits on Core at $9/user/mo or Business at $17/user/mo, both billed yearly ($12 and $25 monthly). The reputation that ClickUp is 'too much' is partly fair, and you should expect to spend real time setting it up properly before it pays off.

ClickUp Features: What You Actually Get
Customizable hierarchy and ClickApps
ClickUp's Workspace → Spaces → Folders → Lists → Tasks structure lets you organize work however you want. Each Space toggles on its own ClickApps — features like time tracking, dependencies, sprints, custom fields, priorities — so the design Space can have a kanban-and-Whiteboard setup while the engineering Space runs sprints with story points. This per-space configurability is deeper than most PM tools offer, but it also makes setup slower.
An agency creates separate Spaces per client, with shared task templates and per-client custom fields. Each client's Space looks different but inherits the same automations and reporting backbone.
ClickUp Brain (AI)
ClickUp Brain is the in-app AI layer: write/edit text in any field, summarize tasks and docs, generate subtasks from a description, autofill custom fields, and answer natural-language questions across your entire workspace ('what tasks are blocked by waiting on @Sara?'). As of October 2026 ClickUp bundles its Brain² AI into every plan instead of selling separate AI plans: Free Forever gets a 500-credit trial per workspace, Core a trial of premium models with 1,000 pooled credits per user a month, Business premium models with 1,500 credits, Enterprise 3,000, and the new Max plan 10,000. Extra AI Super Credits cost $10 per 10,000. Brain is useful because it can read and write across the actual structured data of your workspace.

Views: many ways to look at the same data
Lists of tasks can be rendered as List, Board, Calendar, Gantt, Timeline, Mind Map, Workload, Table, Activity, or Embed view, with some views limited on lower plans. You save view configurations per user or per Space. The same engineering sprint shows up as a kanban for the team, a workload chart for the manager, and a Gantt for the PM — all live, no duplication.
An engineering team uses Board view for the daily standup, Workload view for the manager's 1:1s, and Timeline view for the quarterly roadmap. One source of truth, three different surfaces.
Docs and Whiteboards
ClickUp Docs are wiki-grade documents with rich formatting, real-time collaboration, embedded tasks, dashboards, and other docs. Whiteboards handle brainstorming, flowcharts, and journey mapping, and you can convert sticky notes directly into ClickUp tasks (private whiteboards need Business). Together they reduce the case for separate Notion + Miro subscriptions.
A product team runs a feature kickoff in a Whiteboard, converts the agreed-upon sticky notes into tasks with one click, then writes the spec in a Doc that embeds those tasks. End-to-end without leaving ClickUp.
Time tracking, Goals, and Dashboards
Native time tracking on tasks (no Toggl needed), Goals that roll up progress from tasks/lists/sprints (from Core), and Dashboards for cross-Space reporting (advanced cards on Business). The Goals feature is particularly strong for OKR-running teams because it ties top-level goals to actual work being tracked — not aspirational text.
A leadership team sets quarterly goals in ClickUp Goals, links them to top-level tasks/lists, and the dashboard automatically rolls up progress every Friday. No separate OKR tool needed.
Automations and recurring workflows
ClickUp's automations are rule-based ('when status changes, do X'), with pre-built templates. Triggers, conditions, and actions cover the most common operational handoffs. Limits rise by plan: ClickUp's pricing page lists 1,000 automations a month on Core, 10,000 plus webhooks on Business, and 1 million on Enterprise.
A marketing team automates: 'When status = Approved, move to Publishing list, assign to @Maya, set due date in 7 days, post to #content Slack.' Replaces three manual steps per piece of content.
ClickUp Chat (replacement for Slack)
Unlimited from the Core plan, ClickUp Chat is an in-app messaging tool with channels, DMs, and threading — designed to keep project communication tied to the work. It's not a Slack replacement for company-wide chat (you'll keep Slack for water cooler), but it does meaningfully reduce 'where was that decision made?' lookups.
A team uses #design-feedback in ClickUp Chat instead of Slack. Conversations link directly to the relevant task; new joiners can scroll back and find context without 17 'remind me which thread' messages.

Free is genuinely useful for evaluating ClickUp, since unlimited tasks and unlimited members are rare on a free plan. Core at $9/user/mo billed yearly ($12 monthly) replaces the old $7 Unlimited plan as the entry paid tier. Business at $17/user yearly ($25 monthly) is worth it once you need advanced dashboards, resource management, webhooks, or more than 1,000 automations a month. Custom roles, SAML SSO, and audit logs sit on Enterprise. The entry price is higher than ClickUp's old $7 plan, but AI credits are now included, so a team that would have bought the old $9 Brain AI add-on on top of Unlimited now pays less. ClickUp upgrades the whole workspace at once, so every member counts toward the bill.

The Unlimited plan ($7/user/mo yearly, $10 monthly) is gone; Core is $9 yearly ($12 monthly) and Business rose from $12/$19 to $17/$25. Added the new Max plan ($100 yearly, $120 monthly). Replaced the separate Brain AI and Everything AI plans with ClickUp's included Brain² credits per plan, and updated automation limits to the 1,000 / 10,000 / 1 million a month now listed. Score update: pricing sub-score 9.6 to 9.2, so the overall moves from 9.2 to 9.1. The cheapest paid plan rose from $7 (Unlimited) to $9 (Core) per user a month billed yearly, and Business from $12 to $17; AI credits now included on every plan offset part of the rise.
